Sound Colour Festival

Sound Colour Festival

6 June

The KlankKleurFestival consists of an exhibition and several performances, some of which are free of charge. More than 50 image makers and sound makers join them!

The festival brings together visual arts and chamber music. Interaction between different art forms creates new adventurous combinations. This sixth edition focuses on the theme of 'light and shadow', which is explored both musically and visually.

Viola player, improviser and composer Ig Henneman will open the festival on 6 June at 17:30.

For this edition, the KlankKleurFestival commissioned several visual artists to create two lamps/light objects each within the theme: one shadow lamp and one light bulb.

The lamps/objects created by the artists take centre stage, connecting the beginning and the end of the festival. The venue will be transformed twice: Friday night into a Berlin café with shadow lamps and Sunday night into a New York dance hall with light lamps.

There is also an exhibition where each artist's work is presented in a personal light cabinet.

British-Dutch writer Michel Faber (known for a.o. Under the Skin, The Book of Strange New Things, Listen: On Music, Sound and Us) is a passionate photographer. From his huge collection, always accompanied by girl doll The Intrepid Blonde, he presents a number of photographs responding to the theme of light and shadow.

Theme 'Light and shadow'

The Sound Colour Festival invites visitors to light and shadow can be experienced in all its shades, in the performances and in each of the light objects created for the festival.

Lucid electronic sounds by Luctor Ponse are contrasted with the shadowy sounds of Frank Denyer.

The moon illuminates our path in Willem Boogman's Enjoyment VIII. Scora Obscura deals with impermanence, bringing into the light music that might otherwise disappear into endless darkness.

The Silhouette Parade playfully embraces contrasts and invites you as a visitor to become part of the whole.

Finally, we end up in Harlem, New York, where in the Savoy Ballroom, the so hopeful Lindyhop dance style flourished and various cultures came together in harmony, dancing to swinging music.
