A preview of the cultural season at the Brakke Grond! BANKET is back! On Friday 19 September we throw the doors of our house wide open again to festively open the new Brakke Grond season. The programme includes a dance performance about the urge to live and dance as a form of resistance, a behind-the-scenes look at one of our residents and, of course, a banquet in the form of an edible installation. Central to BANKET this year is the performance Badke(remix) by laGeste and Stereo48. This performance is a reworking of the dance performance Badke featuring 10 Palestinian dancers that toured worldwide between 2013 and 2016. The re-release of Badke is now artistically in Palestinian hands, specifically from Amir Sabra and Ata Khatab, becoming Badke(remix). The starting point for this performance is the dabke, a traditional folk dance from the Levant traditionally reserved for (wedding) celebrations. Badke(remix) showcases zest for life and dance as a form of resistance. After the performance, the dancers and makers will speak to the audience during an after-party discussion moderated by choreographer Ahmed El Gendy. We will start the evening with Brussels transdisciplinary creator and DJ M I M I, who will open our BANKET with a Sound Ceremony. Artist and choreographer Nikima Jagudajev - who is in residence in our house for a fortnight - will open the doors of their workplace so you can get a glimpse of their working process. Amsterdam-based culinary collective Maison Dante will provide snacks and drinks. Expect an edible installation with traditional Middle Eastern bread as well as a boycott bar, where they will serve drinks that serve as ethical alternatives to mainstream drinks from big multinationals. And we will proudly launch our brand new Brakke Grond magazine! Of course, this festive opening night will end with drinks and dancing to the best beats brought to you by Amsterdam DJ AYOUN. Buy your ticket and celebrate the start of a new season of Brakke Grond with us!
