Japan Craft Spirits Tasting

Japan Craft Spirits Tasting

22 March

Dear Lovers,

In recent years, Japanese whiskies have been on an unstoppable rise. By now, the Japanese whisky industry has existed for over 100 years and brands like Hibiki and Yamazaki are no longer strangers to most whisky drinkers. Things are going well in the whisky world and a veritable tsunami of distilleries have sprung up in the last 20 years, including in the land of the rising sun.

We would like to introduce you to a few lesser-known whiskies that we put on our shelves through Japan Craft Spirits. It is therefore our great pleasure to announce to you an interesting and tasty whisky tasting at Café ZILT. On 22 March at 16:00, we invite you to join us in tasting six whiskies from the Saburomaru and award-winning Kameda distilleries under the inspiring guidance of Yasuaki Shirani.

Yasu is a former bartender who made his mark in the industry at a number of ‘High End’ bars in Japan's capital Tokyo before emigrating to Europe in 2012 and starting his Japan Craft Spirits in 2021. His focus is on ’real‘ Japanese whisky. What do you mean ’real‘? Well, until recently, there was quite a bit of distilling in Japan that could hardly be called whisky as the country lacks a legal substantive regulation where the production of whisky is concerned. Meanwhile, the industry has drafted a manifesto but it has not been mandatorily signed by only a few serious producers. Yasuaki will be happy to answer all your questions regarding the production and regulation of Japanese whisky and especially the whiskies in his portfolio. Later this year, he hopes to represent a total of four distilleries. For now, there are three and during the tasting we will get to know two of them.

We want to introduce as many people as possible to whisky from Kameda and Saburomaru and are offering the tasting for only €54 per person. As you have come to expect from us, we will accompany the tasting with plenty of snacks to complement the drinks or just to create interesting contrasts.

Please let us know when you would like to be of the party with a message to: info@cafezilt.nl We would love to see you drop in on Sunday 22 March. Mata ne.

Entrance fee: 54 euros p.p.
