Waag Open: fix & print

Waag Open: fix & print

5 March

In this workshop, you will get to work giving new life to your old clothes. We will create designs with the vinyl cutter to print over clothes. Every year, millions of kilos of textiles end up in the wrong bin. That means they are burnt instead of being reused - even though the textile industry is already one of the most polluting industries worldwide. Re-using or prolonging the use of your clothes is a good solution to reduce waste and pollution. Good news: we don't need to reinvent the wheel. The techniques for repairing clothes are centuries old, but are increasingly being lost. That is why Waags TextileLab created instructables and manuals, in which you learn all about repairing textiles.During this Waag Open, we will get to work with these. Come repair your old clothes or give that old jumper new life or an upgrade. We will get to work with the vinyl cutter and various materials will be available, such as sewing machines, embroidery supplies and haberdashery. Important: bring your own old garments if you want to print new fabric over clothes. Come along to discuss and do. Because not only do we discuss social issues and the future - you always learn something practical besides. Something you've always wanted to try out, like the 3D printer in the FabLab, or something you never expected, like figuring out how DNA works in our biotech lab. Waag Open takes place in the making spaces on the first and second floors of the historic Waag building on Nieuwmarkt.
