Majoie Hajary (Paramaribo, 1921) was a composer in whom pretty much the whole world converged. Not only ethnically speaking (she was Hindustani-Creole-Chinese), but also culturally: her work underwent influences from Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia.
This year saw the publication of her biography: Surinamese Rhapsody. Biographer Ellen de Vries comes to talk about her wanderings in biographer-land. Pianist Roderigo Robles de Medina will play piano works by Majoie Hajary. Host is Michiel van Kempen.
