Exhibition 'The unusual lives of ordinary Amsterdammers - Red Light District'

Exhibition 'The Extraordinary Lives of Ordinary Amsterdammers - Red Light District' Both artists Laura Ponchel (photographer) and Hicham Sabir (copywriter) had already created a joint project titled 'Local Amsterdammers', in Amsterdam East, 2 years ago. In early 2023, the idea arose to set up a similar project here in the Red Light District entitled 'The Extraordinary Lives of Ordinary Amsterdammers - Red Light District'. Titled in Dutch 'The Extraordinary Lives of Ordinary Amsterdammers - Wallenbuurt'. The concept of the exhibition is built around the question of what makes someone an Amsterdammer and how these residents collectively form a neighbourhood. How is the neighbourhood feeling created and how do residents contribute to it? The neighbourhood is very diverse and yet something like a neighbourhood feeling is created. The Residents' Organisation Wallenbuurt has been actively contributing to this for two years. And this exhibition aims to strengthen that neighbourhood feeling and mutual bond, when residents meet in the gallery and share stories.
