From 24 April, the Oude Kerk will present the first large-scale solo presentation by British artist Jesse Darling (Oxford, 1981) in the Netherlands. Darling received the prestigious Turner Prize in 2023. For the Oude Kerk, Darling is developing a temporary landscape and an extensive series of new sculptures made from residual materials. Parallel to the exhibition at the Old Church, Palais de Tokyo in Paris will present a solo presentation by Darling. Previous exhibitions of his work have been shown at CAPC, Bordeaux, Petit Palais, Paris, Tate Britain, London, Museum Ludwig, Cologne.
About the artist
Jesse Darling (b 1981, Oxford) is known for his disruptive, often humorous yet empathetic installations. Using recycled and everyday materials, he distorts familiar objects and creates sculptures that balance between relics, carnivalesque figures and discarded remains. His work shows the fragility of systems that imagine themselves untouchable - from civilisation to identity - and makes tangible how value and exclusion are constantly put into new perspective.
