Rembrandt's master class

Rembrandt's master class

How did Rembrandt become one of the greatest artists in Dutch history? You will learn that in Rembrandt's Masterclass, an exhibition about Rembrandt's craftsmanship, his technique and his tactics.

Museum Rembrandthuis reveals its best tips and tricks in five Masterclasses from Friday 30 January 2026: Looking, Technique, Feeling, Experimenting and Selling. For 19 years, the museum was the maker's house where Rembrandt and his pupils worked. In the exhibition Rembrandt's Masterclass, you step into their footsteps. Visitors can discover for themselves, try, fail, improve and proudly display what they have made.

The exhibition combines etchings, paintings and a drawing by Rembrandt with activities such as copying an elephant, drawing the perfect line, directing your own image and recognising the real Rembrandt.

At the end of the exhibition, you come face-to-face with one of Rembrandt's masterpieces: the painting The anatomy lesson by Jan Deijman. In a slow-watching room, you will find out step by step how this work of art brings together everything Rembrandt was so good at. This do-and-see exhibition is fun for young and old alike!
