Hidden among the hustle and bustle of the Nieuwmarkt neighbourhood is a special place.

In a former smithy - still with the robust rafters of yesteryear - the Amsterdam Marionette Theatre has had its home for more than 35 years.

Here, puppets are hand-carved from wood. Costumes are created in the in-house workshop. Everything exudes craftsmanship, love of music and dedication to classical puppetry.
Operas are not just played here - they are brought to life. For children, adults, opera lovers and visitors from all over the world.

An oasis of calm and creativity, right in the middle of the oldest part of Amsterdam.
