On Warmoesstraat, in the middle of the hot neighbourhood, sits JEMI, which many say is the nicest flower shop in the neighbourhood. The shop has been around for over 42 years and stands out among the many businesses on the street.
A shop with character
"We are not a Nutella shop or a waffle bar," says Michel of JEMI. "And that is exactly what people like. We stand out because we are different."
The flower shop is more than a place to buy something. "We are also just a talking shop," Michel explains. "Not everyone needs flowers every day, but people come here for a cup of coffee or a chat. It's like at the hairdresser's, you share stories."
The green oasis of Warmoesstraat
In front of the shop, Michel and his team keep the street neat and green. "Every day we clean the alley and put out some plants," he says. "It's part of us. A bit of peace in the hustle and bustle."
Jemi has become a fixture in the neighbourhood. "The whole world passes by here," says Michel. "Everyone is allowed to be themselves here. We know the people, we say hello to each other. This is just our neighbourhood."
